Web sites we like to stumble upon now and then to glean new information about the world, education or simply sites that make us laugh or learn about ourselves…do we ever stop learning?

Technology, Education and Human Resource Recommended Blogs

Last week while sitting in an airport, I grabbed a magazine that featured information on Microsoft’s HoloLens. As an educational leader, I was simply blown away with the future classroom applications that could occur once this product’s engineers have worked out all the kinks and the price driven down to make it an affordable tool to use to enhance learning for learners of all ages, in school and in the workforce.

Below are some good reviews to get one acquainted with the product and provides a glimpse of what it can do and why this product is one to watch for making a change in the way we look at teaching and student learning.

Check out this YouTube Video, that is mind-blowing in educational possibilities for our future with preparing tomorrow’s leaders for any industry. Microsoft HoloLens-Transform your World with Holograms

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning website is very cool and offers a plethora for resources for educational leaders. The site offers blogs to follow and products to use to enhance any learning environment.

Continual Learning Across the Industries

Since we should always be learning new ways to perfect our craft, regardless of industry, this is a great site for professional development and human resource  leaders as well. Learning needs to be engaging for all learners, regardless of their age or level of education. SnackNation, conducted a survey and came up with some out-of-the-box blogs that share ideas on how to make your employees feel validated and engaged in whatever it is you as a manager, leader or employer have to offer.

In an age where after a 30 second sound bite, we lose interest, gleaning some perspective and new ideas from those with whom we want to engage, so they can lead our industries into tomorrow might not be a bad idea.

Zondervan…A Great Educational Site for all Stakeholders in the Life of a Child

As educators we are always looking for good material and strategies to share that will help our parents (the first responders) and teachers be more effective in the life of a child.  Each child is special and unique, so we try to find educational tools to address all learning styles.

This morning, I stumbled upon a site/company that I had forgotten about.  I utilized some of Zondervan‘s products in the classroom many moons ago and somehow I forgot how positive some of their products were for students of all ages.

Zondervan has company values that promote positive character development…refreshing! At Unlock the teacher, we are all about promoting the good…good in ourselves and others; we love this list of values that Zondervan promotes.

OUR VALUES

Integrity — We maintain high ethical and moral standards in speech and in personal and professional conduct.

Initiative — We are willing and empowered to proactively contribute to the success of the company, its customers, and other employees.

Excellence — We give our personal best.

Innovation — We seek out new possibilities in every area and embrace ground-breaking change that adds value.

Respect — We have as much consideration for the personal and professional worth and dignity of others as we do for ourselves.

Accountability — We are responsible for our own actions and answerable to others.

At a time where children, parents and teachers are all trying to find words of inspiration, I am thrilled to offer our readers a look at Zondervan.  If you are like me and new them in the early 90’s, I encourage all stakeholders in the life of a child to take a moment and revisit this company. Zondervan offers book for all ages…us adults too 🙂

My Recommendations

Little People age 6 and under

Cecil the Lost Sheep  good message and sure to engage the young learner/emerging reader

Teens

All books by C.S. Lewis…my students loved his work!

Starlighter by Bryan Davis

Parents

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren (I read this and loved it, life changing and quite inspiring!)

Teachers

I just recommend you visit site and explore!  Zonderkids~Inspiring Young Lives

I am a firm believer that as educators we need to speak the language of the 21st century in order to be effective in our craft.  This is a great site to explore eBooks (you know we are huge fans of eBooks here at Unlock the Teacher) and educational apps.  Hope you visit this positive company’s site and comment on what you think of recommendation(s).

May we continue to seek knowledge in all things,

We Have Found an Amazing 7 Year-Old Writer and Her Mom Writes Too…Check out Her Blog

In one of our Writing Workshops in May, I was thrilled to spend time with Amy Foret.  She is a young mom who is a wife and a mother of two. Her articulate and well-read daughter is 7 and she has an amazing son who is 5.

Her daughter started reading when she was only 3 1/2, and has been writing stories since she started kindergarten. Now she is in second grade. She reads about a book a night, and writes at least one short story a week.

Please check out and welcome these new writers to WordPress and the writing arena.

For all of our readers who love to get great ideas on books to utilize in classroom or read to your child, we highly recommend Amy’s blog MY Garden Patch of Books.

Please check it our and share your thoughts here on your great reading finds 🙂

I am on my way to VA to meet with Trisha and conduct some Unlock the Teacher LLC “How to ePublish” Workshops…

Stay tuned as the next Katie’s Adventure eBook is almost ready to hit Barnes and Noble.com.  The OLQM first graders who wrote and illustrated the book did an amazing job!

“Veggie Tales” and My Little People

While watching The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything this past weekend, I was reminded how these videos are so uplifting for all viewers.  As I sat on the floor with my little people, (though 6 and 8 is not  that little anymore ;-)) singing along to the great tunes, I watched as both my son and daughter were engaged with the movie’s message.

All the Veggie Tale movies I have seen have incorporated wonderful songs.  However, the most important contribution that each movie offers is the strong moral message.  The moral or character attributes being promoted in each movie, is so creatively intertwined into the story line.

For more information on parent and teacher resources, incorporating the use of the many Veggie Tale lessons, check out the following article at Suite 101.

Veggie Tales Provides Moral Stories We Can All Learn From

Great New Information to Utilize in Classroom from PBS for Educators

In social studies, check out the video on the Grand Canyon. Classified under resources for grades K-2 & 3-5. Learn that natural forces carved out the Grand Canyon over thousands of years. Observe the magnificence of the canyon with Wilson and Ditch as they gaze at it from the skywalk. Teachers can share video or save for a later time.

Middle School Social Studies Teachers…check out the State of the Union Lesson Plans @ http://www.pbs.org/teachers/stateoftheunion/ Educators can also video stream the “State of the Union” video as well.

Note: Whenever this site references educators/teachers, we mean you! We are all teachers and regardless if you have children or not, we are all responsible for our future, which is our children…it is a cyclical process!

If you have a great educational tip, please share. The goal is to spread the knowledge and prosper, not hold the knowledge so that others might fail.

May we seek knowledge in all things,

Denise 🙂
