Unlock the Teacher LLC Student Workshops for 2011-2012 School Year

Hello Everyone,

We want to thank you for a wonderful school year.  We have enjoyed each school we have traveled to and worked with, and every class has been amazing!  To all the administrators who invited us in, thank you.  Due to your positive response(s), kind words and sharing with us what you would like to see for next year, we have created the following student workshops for the 2011-2012 school year.  We travel all around the United States and we are in dialogue with a few countries too 🙂 for future proposals.

We are provide our workshops to schools, youth groups, summer camps, church groups and within the community.  Given our focus as a company, we love to work side-by-side with charities for schools and/or communities, donating portions of proceeds to selected charities.

I am thrilled to share that we have two workshops already booked for the end of September, by two schools we have worked with on curriculum alignment this school year.

Unlock the Teacher LLC Student Workshops

All of these workshops ultimately benefit our children, our future. We are happy to come into schools, summer camps or church groups to teach. References will be provided upon request.

Teen ePublishing Workshop

Christopher Paolini, author of the popular “Eragon” series, published his first eBook at the age of 14. Could you be the next teen author? Get inspired during this ePublishing workshop for teens. Learn how to turn your original works into an academic portfolio and build your future through writing and ePublishing.  This workshop provides examples of successful teen authors, sites for teens to submit writing and poems for online contests and a basic overview of ePublishing. Note: This workshop is very popular with teens and we have received many favorable responses from educators, teens and parents.

Session Length:         90 Minutes

Price:                          $600.00 per 200 Students

Anti-Bullying “Words Hurt” Workshop Session I (Grades K-3)

This workshop is centered on identifying and discovering that we all have gifts and talents. As a group, we discuss positive and negative words and, how when used, they can make us feel inside.  As a group, students create a “Pick-Up-Don’t Put Down” chart. (e.g.  I am strong because I am kind.”)

Session Length:         45-60 Minutes

Price:                          $400.00 per 200 Students

Anti-Bullying “You Can Make a Difference” Workshop Session II (Grades 4-6)

This is a great workshop for character building. Studies show this is the age to target to catch and dissolve bullying behavior.  Dialogue centers on identifying appropriate and inappropriate behavior associated with bullying.  Presentation covers how to communicate when involved in or witnessing this behavior. Problem solving tips are given to help with future anti-bullying success. Students create as a group the “Don’t Be a Bully Three B’s Please” chart. (e.g. 1. Don’t be a bully “B”ecause…it makes you feel bad inside!) If time permits, students are encouraged to participate in impromptu skits and role-play scenarios. (Students usually love this portion.)

Session Length:         60-90 Minutes

Price:                          $500.00 per 200 students

Anti-Bullying “Words, Action, Character” Workshop Session III Grades 7 & 8

This workshop begins with a review of “You Can Make a Difference” workshop, spending the first 15-20 minutes discussing how we all can contribute and help each other for the greater good.  In this workshop, examples are given via video clips of 11-13 year olds who have been victims of bullying, its effects and strategies used to overcome it.
Students work together as a group to create a slogan for their school environment’s “Words, Action, Character”.
Students will identify words that empower the slogan created and words that destroy its meaning.

Session Length:         60-90 Minutes

Price:                          $500.00 per 200 students

Anti-Bullying “Getting the Big Picture” Workshop Session IV (Grades 9-12)

This workshop is designed to educate students on the legal ramifications involved with the improper use of social media tools. i.e. Twitter, Facebook, AIM, IM, Blogs, MySpace, etc.  Examples are provided to identify improper use and the results and consequences of such action.  Leadership is highlighted in this session along with character attributes.  An overview is given along with examples of how the actions of today are judged by future colleges and employers.  *Given size of school, this session can be divided into two groups: grades 9 & 10 and 11 & 12.

Session Length:         60-90 Minutes

Price:                          $500.00 per 200 students

“ePublishing and Writing” Workshop for Grades 1-12

This workshop is a two-session workshop.

Session I:        This workshop is a fun and creative way to get students of all ages excited about writing.  We come into the classroom to go through the writing process with class.  Within this workshop, students brainstorm ideas, create an outline and write story.  Once this process is complete, students are assigned aspects of their story to illustrate on paper.

Session II:       Then teacher(s) and Unlock the Teacher LLC work together to assemble the work and prepare to ePublish.  This workshop is ideal for educators looking to find creative revenue resources for field trips, adding technology to the classroom etc. As educators, we create and write on a daily basis. Our team will come in and work with educators in your district and/or building to create ideas for eBooks that will be popular within the community and education. We will demonstrate how to utilize teaching experience and current teaching practices as ePublishing tools and ePublish with Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com.  Please see website for examples of this process. (e.g. “Katie’s Farm Adventures” eBook Series)

Session I Length:       2 Hours

Session II Length:     3-4 Hours

Price:                          $1200.00 per 30 Student Class Size

Note: Once session I and II are complete, eBooks can be published online for direct profit to classroom or school.

All of these workshops ultimately benefit our children, our future, and theirs. We are happy to come into schools, or work with summer camps, home schooling and church youth groups. References will be provided upon request.

We have worked with many school groups this years, conducting student workshops while raising money for charity.  Please visit our website for further details. Packages are availabe and are discounted.

Writing Workshop to Create an eBook

Students from 1st grade through twelfth grade find this workshop fun and beneficial!  We take students through the writing process accompanied with our unique twist.  Once students have outline in place, students discuss, collaborate and sketch illustrations for the work created. After these steps are complete, we demonstrate and facilitate the editing and publishing piece of the workshop until students are able to view a finished product. Regardless of age, it never ceases to amaze me just how excited students get to know that they are now “published” authors.

1st Grade "Writing and ePublishing" Workshop

* This is one of my favorite workshops to conduct :-)…large or small groups work fine. We customize workshops to meet the needs of school.

We have also conducted Anti-Bullying Workshop and additional workshops are being created as we receive requests.

If your school or school near you would like to see kids get excited about writing…visit our website at www.unlocktheteacher.com to schedule a workshop for next year!

Have a super weekend!

Good Morning Everyone,

We hope you had a wonderful Memorial weekend with family and friends.  Trisha, Sue and I had some much-needed down time with our families.

What a wonderful thing for these 1st graders to experience…to see the value in  reading and the whole creative writing process.

In fact, we have been approached by a couple of companies to work with us to create book apps and one company out west that we are watching for a possible future relationship in academic eBook apps…please keep us in your thoughts as we discern the best possible way to promote literacy and to make a difference in the world around us.

Next year will be exciting as we will continue to go into schools to provide  “ePublishing and Writing”  Workshops for our youth and curriculum alignment (Common Core State Standards) assistance to our great educational colleagues around the United States…and possible overseas contracts too 🙂 .

Thank you to all the teachers, students and principles that have invited us into their classrooms and schools this year.  Thank you to all the wonderful readers who send us positive encouragements via WordPress, twitter, our website or facebook…THANK YOU!  If we did not have you to help fill our buckets, we would not be able to do all that we try to do.

May your week be filled with many “a-ha” moments!

Stay Tuned~Unlock the Teacher LLC is Launching Three New Books in April

As March is coming to an end, the Unlock the Teacher LLC team wanted to make sure that everyone knows just how grateful we are for all the support of our eBooks being sold online at Barnes and Noble

ePublishing Teen Workshops in Schools This Week Went Great and Were Inspirational

Our Unlock the Teacher LLC ePublishing Teen Workshops in Schools This Week Went Great and Were Inspirational!  We have had such a great time this week going into schools, talking and working with teenagers about how to utilize their great ideas and talents to earn college money.  There are so many successful teen authors out there.  The groups we met with shared books they are reading or have read and were amazed that some of them were written by teens.

When we brought up the Eragon series, each school group cheered or expressed loudly their love for this series.  Out of hundreds of teens, only a handful knew Christopher Paolini history and how as a teenager he wrote EragonTeenReads.com  is just one of many sites we recommend in our workshops, for teenagers to seek out information on their favorite authors. Author Ashley is another great example we use to demonstrate how teenagers can turn their crazy dreams, ideas and thoughts into eBooks and be successful.  One of the neatest pieces to Ashley Author’s story is that her whole family participates in the process…much like Christopher Paolini family.

In our community ePub workshops or small group workshops the parent-child collaboration seems to draw huge interest.  We are currently working with a principal who loves the teen/parent workshop idea and we are developing a workshop specifically tailored to his audience in his district.  Children have great ideas and if we only pause and listen, there is much we can learn from them.

Speaking of learning, one K-2 group that we met with this week were so cute but so full of ideas that after our eBook Reading Workshop, we met as a team and wrote down some of their ideas that we could use…a plethora of great ideas from wise children under the age of 8!  This is a great reminder that we should always seek knowledge… if open to it, it can come from the least expected places and people.

More to come as I begin to write down these great ideas from children to share.

Knowledge is meant to be shared…may we seek it and share it!

Denise 🙂

P.S. If your child or classroom has a good idea and you would like to share with us and our readers, we would love to read it!

“All Around our Town” to Launch the 1st of March in 2011 for Unlock the Teacher LLC Promoting Literacy Campaign

My community has many beautiful parks.

All proceeds from the eBook for  “All Around our Town”  will be donated to St. Mary’s School in Royal Oak, Michigan.  This school has a wonderful curriculum plan that incorporates art and reading across the curriculum.  The art teachers exhibits a passion for her craft and enjoys showcasing the many beautiful art projects created by her students. The 7th and 8th graders are so well read in this building, I enjoy stopping in to ask them what they are reading and why.  Unlock the Teacher LLC can not wait to see what wonderful ways this building will utilize our gift.

Given that the Common Core State Standards Initiative rolls out in 2012, if your district or school is in need of some curriculum assistance, please visit our website for more information.  We have a proven track record, a workable, teacher friendly model and positive references  from educators, administrators and district level personnel.  Teachers’ most important job is educating our future, our children.  One role we feel at Unlock the Teacher LLC is vital to our mission, is to be a resource for our fellow teachers.  We go in buildings, look at current curriculum, incorporate new CCSS through collaboration and facilitating workshops to allow the educational staff to focus on the learning process  in the classroom.  Many feel that educators should be able to teach eight hours, go home and grade papers for two-four more hours, write lesson plans and somehow find time for their families.  Then, on top of that, we expect them to stay motivated, current and differentiate to meet the needs of all learners.  We are blessed in this country that there are so many educators who are able to do all these tasks and make it work for all stake holders.  However, there are many studies that speak to the high “burn-out” rate for teachers.  Unlock the Teacher, LLC goal is to be a resource for many and an aid to allow educators to focus on what is most important, preparing our children for the future. Wow, I guess I had more in me today then I realized.  I will now jump off my soap box now and encourage everyone to seek knowledge in all things! ~Denise 🙂
