Unlock the Teacher LLC Charity eBooks are Almost at 100 in Sales Since March Promoting Literacy Month

Book II in the "Katie's Adventure" Series~"Katie's Exploring Adventure" written and illustrated by 1st Graders

Good Morning Everyone,

We hope you had a wonderful Memorial weekend with family and friends.  Trisha, Sue and I had some much-needed down time with our families.

As the school year is winding down for many, we wanted to give all of our supporters an amazing update on our eBooks we published in March to promote literacy…where proceeds go directly to designated schools to support their literacy funds.  Our sales are exciting as we are close to reaching 100 books sold.  Thank you!

We are also excited to share that the “Katie’s Adventure” series is now giving our Mysteries of the Beach and Phonics Friends a run for their money in sales.  Katie’s Exploring Adventure written and illustrated by Mrs. McMahon’s 1st grade class is selling in the multiple digits in just two weeks out.

What a wonderful thing for these 1st graders to experience…to see the value in  reading and the whole creative writing process.

In fact, we have been approached by a couple of companies to work with us to create book apps and one company out west that we are watching for a possible future relationship in academic eBook apps…please keep us in your thoughts as we discern the best possible way to promote literacy and to make a difference in the world around us.

Next year will be exciting as we will continue to go into schools to provide  “ePublishing and Writing”  Workshops for our youth and curriculum alignment (Common Core State Standards) assistance to our great educational colleagues around the United States…and possible overseas contracts too 🙂 .

We would love to come to your school to provide writing, ePublishing or Anti-Bullying Workshops for your students and get them excited about  learning, writing, and publishing work and collaborating for a better tomorrow.  For detailed information, please visit our website @ www.unlocktheteacher.com or email us at teachme@unlocktheteacherllc.com or you may email me directly at Denise@unlocktheteacherllc.com

Thank you to all the teachers, students and principles that have invited us into their classrooms and schools this year.  Thank you to all the wonderful readers who send us positive encouragements via WordPress, twitter, our website or facebook…THANK YOU!  If we did not have you to help fill our buckets, we would not be able to do all that we try to do.

May your week be filled with many “a-ha” moments!

Denise

A Reader Shares Their Favorite Educational Website…Check it Out and Let us Know!

One of our readers would like to share their website.  We love to collaborate and share, so check out this webiste and let us know if it was a good recommendation or not…

Dear Unlock the Teacher Team,

I’d like to share our website brightstorm(www.brightstorm.com). We cover most math, science subjects of junior/senior high students, and are going to expand it to other subjects. We have thousands of free high quality videos for every possible textbook topic and practice problems for every topic will be added this summer, too. Also, we’re now developing a convenient tool for teachers to create supplemental materials using our content. All this is and will be free as far as I know(I’m the CEO….). Seeing my daughter’s math teacher recommended our site during her back to school night presentation, I guess it will be helpful for other teachers and students, too.
Thanks!

Bumsoo

Good luck Bumsoo and  Unlock the Teacher LLC team wishes you much success!  We hope many students prosper because of your efforts.

May we continue to seek knowledge in all things,

Denise and the entire Unlock the Teacher LLC Team

“It Couldn’t Be Done” by Edgar A. Guest…Denise Ball’s Favorite Motivational Poem

It Couldn’t Be Done
Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it”;
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it!
This is by far one of my favorite poems.  I find it so motivational in all aspects of my life…spiritually, physically and mentally.  I am sharing it with you today in hopes that you might share it to offer hope and insight for yourself or a child in your life.
I would love to know what poem moves you…please share with our Unlock the Teacher LLC readers your favorite poem and maybe it will bring a smile to someone in need of one today!
May we seek knowledge in all things,
Denise

A Review of “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig” by Eugene Trivizas and Helen Oxenbury

Once they got past their differences, they could be friends...imagine!

Given that my little people are on Spring break, we made the most of it today.  We had a playdate and visited our local library.  Our family just loves the library and views it as a magical place, full of many adventures, just waiting to be explored.  While at the library we discovered that we could check out Wii games…for free and for a few days at a time.  At the same time, I found myself amazed and grateful.

What a wonderful way for audiences young and old to try out new games and new yoga poses for the Wii 🙂 I was so thrilled by this awesome discovery, I felt the need to share it with all of you.

The other treasure we found while at the library, was a book called, The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, written by Eugene Trivizas and Helen Oxenbury.  My daughter and I shared so many laughs over this tonight.  The vocabulary is excellent; some words were challenging for my daughter to sound out and there were a couple of words she did not know meaning. I utilized these words as great teachable moment tools.

Scholastic offers a free lesson plan for parents and teachers to use with children provided by Michelle Higgens, a third grade teacher.  Given the lexicon used in this book, I would recommend for grades 1-3.  This would be a great resource to use when teaching/discussing bullying and differences with child/student.

I hope everyone runs out to their local library and reads this book…funny, cute and a tool to learn from.

Have a great night and happy reading!

May we continue to seek knowledge in all things,

Denise
