Anti-Bullying Workshops gets Views and Comments…Thank You!

Thank you for reading our blog and as our statistics show, for visiting our Unlock the Teacher website.  In this week alone, we have had over 200 views of our Anti-Bullying Workshops.

The beginning of the school year has been very busy for us and as we continue to go into schools to conduct our ePublishing and Anti-Bullying workshops, we are also working with a few schools currently on CCSS Curriculum Alignment…and if this was not enough to keep us smiling, we have been writing and meeting with our parent and teacher focus groups for our first book that is in its final stages in our Unlock the Teacher series.  Both Dr. Lick and Dr. Letscher have been great  given their tasking schedules, to help put final touches on our work so we can send out to publishers.

Given our schedule the last couple of weeks, we are thrilled with the views and emails coming in requesting information about our Anti-Bullying Workshops…THANK YOU!

We worked very hard last year creating student- friendly workshops that would be age appropriate.  We gathered input from parents, teachers and law enforcement (for grades 9-12 workshop) and gathered statistical data to help all stake holders realize just how important it is to talk about bullying, address questions and concerns and provide students with  problem-solving tools and strategies in bullying situations.

Please feel free to contact us to ask questions, provide input or feedback or to request letters of recommendations.

Thank you for your continued support, together we can make a difference!

May we continue to seek knowledge in all things,

Denise

Anti-Bullying “Words Hurt” Workshop Session I (Grades K-3)
This workshop is centered on identifying and discovering that  we all have gifts and talents. As a group, we discuss positive and negative words, and how when used, they can make us feel inside.  As a group, students create a “Pick-Up-Don’t Put Down” chart. (e.g.  I am strong because I am kind.”)
Session Length:         45-60 Minutes
Price:                          $400.00 per 200 Students

Anti-Bullying “You Can Make a Difference” Workshop Session II (Grades 4-6)
This is a great workshop for character building. Studies show this is the age to target to catch and dissolve bullying behavior.  Dialogue
centers on identifying appropriate and inappropriate behavior associated with bullying.  Presentation covers how to communicate when involved in or witnessing this behavior. Problem solving tips are given to help with future anti-bullying success. Students create as a group the “Don’t Be a Bully Three B’s Please” chart. (e.g. 1. Don’t be a bully “B”ecause…it makes you feel bad inside!) If time permits, students are encouraged to participate in impromptu skits and role-play scenarios. (Students usually love this portion.)
Session Length:          60-90 Minutes
Price:                          $500.00 per 200 students
Anti-Bullying “Words, Action, Character” Workshop Session III (Grades 7 & 8)
This workshop begins with a review of “You Can Make a Difference” workshop, spending the first 15-20 minutes discussing how we all can
contribute and help each other for the greater good.  In this workshop, examples are given via video clips of 11-13 year olds who have been victims of bullying, its effects and strategies used to overcome it.  Students work together as a group to create a slogan for their school environment’s
“Words, Action, Character”.  Students will identify words that empower the slogan created and words that destroy its meaning.
Session Length:          60-90 Minutes
Price:                          $500.00 per 200 students
Anti-Bullying “Getting the Big Picture” Workshop Session IV (Grades 9-12)
This workshop is designed to educate students on the legal ramifications involved with the improper use of social media tools.
i.e. Twitter, Facebook, AIM, IM, Blogs, MySpace, etc.  Examples are provided to identify improper use and the results and consequences of such action.
Leadership is highlighted in this session along with character attributes.  An overview is given along with examples of how the actions of today are judged by future colleges and employers.  (Given size of school, this session can be divided into two groups: grades 9 & 10 and 11 & 12)
Session Length:          60-90 Minutes
Price:                         $500.00 per 200 students
We work in all schools and are happy to help work out funding or help find a funding source for you.

Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Student Workshop Responses Have Been Great…Thank You!

Response to our Common Core State Standards Workshops has Been Amazingly Successful…Thank You!

Unlock the Teacher workshop pictures in schools for the 2010/2011 School Year

Although we worked in schools this past school year 2010/2011 to help align building curriculum to the Common Core State Standards , since we posted our workshops to prepare our calendar for next school year, the response has been amazing!  We are thrilled with the response and inquiring emails are great…we are happy to answer any questions and we work with all schools to include but not limited to public, private and charter.

On this blog alone, we are averaging 40-100 views a day for our workshops and our subscriptions for our blog have doubled.

As we continue to prepare for next year’s schedule, we are also finishing up a few academic eBooks.

We are also finishing up a year’s worth of research, needs assessments and writing…many months of collaborating with  Dr. David Lick, Associate Professor, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and Assistant Clinical Professor, Wayne State University School of Medicine and Dr. Joslen Letscher, Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy.  We are hoping to send proposals to publishers for this project in September.

Outside of our Common Core State Standards Workshops another hot topic of inquiry from our readers is our Anti-Bullying Workshops.  Brief examples of these workshops will be posted soon.

The positive responses from educators has been so rewarding, as they are my colleagues. To have such great emails commenting that you like what we are trying to do is very humbling and synergistic.

We appreciate all the emails, comments and questions.  We are also trying to write grants now to be able to provide workshops for those schools who have asked but cannot afford it for their staff or students.

Thank you!

May we continue to seek knowledge in all things,

Denise and the Unlock the Teacher Team

Unlock the Teacher has Regained Control Over our unlocktheteacher.wordpress Blog

Wow, what a long week of trying to figure out why someone would manipulate our system, to take over our blog.  However, once we figured out the who…all it took was effort.

We want to thank Google Security and the WordPress team for working so diligently on our behalf and in such a professional manner.

We realize that our logo has been modified as well as many lost articles.  We will get our blog back into shape and appreciate your patience.

Give us a few days to repair and we have some exciting articles to share with you on utilizing Google in education and some great educational conferences coming!

For all of the well wishes this past week, knowing that someone had hacked our blog, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Our goal is to be a beacon of light and to help make a difference for children, parents and teachers.
